Lakers Fall Apart in 4th; Lose to Suns, 92-86

31 Jan

The Los Angeles Lakers came in riding a 3 game winning streak that was fueled by a sudden change in game plans where ball movement and balanced scoring were key. Early in Wednesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns that same game plan was being followed and working well. The Lakers lead by as many as 13 points in the game, but it all fell apart in the 4th quarter where the Suns outscored the Lakers 29 to 13 and went on to win 92-86 over the Lakers.

Michael Beasley came off the bench for the Suns and scored a season high 27 points and led the team in scoring.

Contrary to Popular Belief, Kobe Has Always Been a Willing Facilitator

Kobe Bryant dumps a pass behind Mobley

Written by: Fern Rea

Kobe Bryant continues to get portrayed in the media and by fans as a selfish, high volume shooter who refuses to trust his teammates. Such things have been said as Kobe having tunnel vision and only caring about his statistical achievements. Some say that he only cares about his legacy and catching Michael Jordan as the greatest of all time.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

People seem to ignore the fact that Kobe has always averaged around 5 assists per game each season, which ranks at the top of the league every year for shooting guards. This year he is 3rd in the league in assists for shooting guards, only behind James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Monte Ellis of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Lakers Win 3rd in a Row; Hold Off Hornets Late Run. Score 111-106

29 Jan

It might be early, but the Los Angeles Lakers might have found the game plan to get themselves out of their year long funk. The Lakers beat the New Orleans Hornets last night, 111-106 for their 3rd consecutive win. The Lakers current winning streak coincides with the ball movement and unselfishness that the players have exhibited in the last 3 games.

The Lakers had 34 assist last night on 39 made baskets. This follows nights of 26 assists against the Utah Jazz on Friday and 29 assists versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. To put these numbers in perspective, on the year, the Lakers rank 15th in the league with an average of 22 assist per game. The San Antonio Spurs lead the league in assists per game with 25 per game.

9 Ways to Fix The Lakers This Season

Lakers huddle nash gasol bryant howard

Written by Sean Presley:

When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired both Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, basketball fans from all over the globe assumed it was going to be a Lakers vs Heat match up in this years’ NBA finals. On paper this was the best Lakers’ team ever assembled and the script had us all anxious for another Championship season. The Lakers have 5 future Hall of Famers starting and one possibly (Antwan Jamison) coming off the bench. Unfortunately, this years’ team has posted one of the worse Lakers records in recent history and the now appear to be on the brink of playoff elimination before the start of All Star Weekend. Laker Nation has watched the Fairy Tale ending to Kobe Bryant‘s career turn into a Nightmare as we went from possible contenders to potentially missing the playoff for just the second time in the last 19 years.

Lakers Sustain Energy This Time and Top Jazz 102-84

25 Jan

After the team meeting that occurred prior to the Memphis Grizzlies game on Wednesday, there was talk from the Los Angeles Lakers that their quarrels with shots and roles in the in the offense were behind them. There was also talk from players that there was going to be a renewed focus on defense, energy and winning going forward. For about 6 minutes into the game it seemed like the Lakers were following through on their earlier promises; it didn’t last long as the Lakers were thoroughly out worked and blown out by the Grizzlies the rest of the way.

That wasn’t the case Friday Night as the Lakers were able to sustain the energy and team play from start to finish. The Lakers beat the Utah Jazz easily, 102-84. The Lakers end their 4 game losing streak.

Kobe Bryant played his best all around game of the season and was looking to get players involved early. Kobe scored 14 points and handed out a season high 14 assist. Kobe was 1 rebounds short of a triple double, ending with 9 boards.

Dwight Howard didn’t show any lasting effects of his shoulder injury that he re-aggravated in the Memphis game. Dwight ended the game with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lakers have a much tougher match up on Sunday when they face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Staples Center.
