Sam Amick of USA Today reports that Mike Brown has been fired as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers:
“Mike Brown has been fired by the Los Angeles Lakers, according to his agent Warren Legarie.”
It is unknown at this point who will take over the coaching duties for the 1-4 Lakers.
The likely scenario in cases where a head coach is fired in-season is that one of the assistance coaches takes over on an interim basis. The Lakers current assistant coaching staff is comprised of Chuck Person, Steve Clifford, Bernie Bickerstaff and Eddie Jordan.
The Lakers play the Warriors Friday at Staples Center. It appears it will be their first game to start the post Mike Brown era.
Update: Mike Bresnahan of the LA Times is reporting that Bernie Bickerstaff will take over as coach on an interim basis.
