Reports out of Lakers camp today is that not only will Steve Nash and Steve Blake be suiting up for tonight’s game at the Minnesota Timberwolves, they’ll start. It was also announced that Jodie Meeks will move over to the starting small forward spot.
Pau Gasol has been ruled out for the Lakers’ 3 game road trip and Robert Sacre will start in his place. Wesley Johnson and Kendall Marshall will come off the bench for the Lakers.
While Marshall has played well on the offensive end, the team has not performed well overall offensively and have been absolutely horrid defensively since he’s taken over the starting point guard position. Since December 31st, Kendall Marshall as led the NBA in assists at 11.3 assists per game; however, the Lakers have gone 3-13 which is the 4th worse record in that 16 game span.
In the last 16 games with Marshall at point guard, the Lakers offensive rating has been ranked 21st and defensive rating was dead last in the NBA. D’Antoni looking for a spark and quick turnaround to their current woes, understandably looks to his veteran guards over the young and unproven guard.
