Kobe has played a total of 6 games this season, sandwiched between recovering from a catastrophic Achilles injury and suffering a serious knee injury. With only 18 games left the in the season, we finally got the official word from the Los Angeles Lakers, but most Lakers fans already knew.
In the 6 games that Kobe did play this season, he showed brief flashes, but just that, flashes. Overall, his game was what you would probably expect from a 35 year old that is coming off a major injury such as an Achilles tendon rupture. Kobe averaged 13.8 points, 6.3 assists and shot 42.5 percent from the field in a surprisingly high for a guy coming back from injury, 29.5 minutes per game.
Kobe’s best game of the season came on December 14th, in Charlotte to face the Bobcats. Kobe scored a season high 21 points on 8 for 15 from the field; he also grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 8 assists. The Lakers beat the Bobcats, 88-85, but it was only their 2nd win out of the 6 games in which Kobe appeared.
We go to Twitter to get some quotes from the Lakers brass, players, coaches and Kobe himself:
The Lakers now move on without Kobe, currently with a record of 22-42 which is tied for last in the Western Conference with the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings. The Lakers play the Thunder at Oklahoma City tomorrow and then play the San Antonio Spurs on the 2nd night of a road back to back.
