The Best Kobe Bryant Career Tribute Video Found on Youtube

9 Jun

I ran across an awesome video compilation of some of Kobe’s greatest moments on Youtube. The tribute, titled “Legacy of Kobe 2013″ was done by someone going by the Youtube user name of Kobebeans and he simply knocked it out the park. The video and sound editing was flawless and he did a great job of including most of Kobe’s most memorable moments in his time in the NBA.

In Dwight Howard’ first interview since the ousting of the Los Angeles Lakers by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs he provides cryptic messages that give off a vibe that he is leaning towards leaving Los Angeles. While it was nothing explicated in what Howard stated in his interview with Los Angeles Times columnist T.J. Simers, you can pick up a hint of his current mindset.

Great ‘Forever Kobe’ NBA ‘Big’ Spot – But What About the Dunk?

26 May

The NBA’s tagline in their newest campaign is “Big” and showcases Kobe Bryant in their most recent spot. The 30 second commercial starts off with a young Kobe wearing the old number 8 jersey taking off, cocking his arm back and about to bring down a thunderous dunk on the head of the poor sap known as Todd MacColloch from the New Jersey Nets. The play is from game 1 of the 2002 NBA Finals, where the Los Angeles Lakers went on to sweep the Nets in 4 games to win their third straight NBA championship.

Press Telegram: Golden State Added to Dwight Howard’s List of Preferred Teams

23 May

The free agent season in the NBA doesn’t start until July 1st, but the speculation and rumors are in full effect. Los Angeles Lakers’  free agent center, Dwight Howard has the ability to sign a 5 year 118 million dollar contract to stay with the Lakers, or do what no other big name free agent has ever done, leave the Lakers for another team and take less money, a 4 year deal for 88 million to sign elsewhere.

It has been widely purported that the NBA ball clubs that Howard is considering are the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and staying with the Los Angeles Lakers. All of the aforementioned teams have, or can make very simple moves to acquire cap space to sign Dwight Howard to a maximum free agent deal outright.

5 Key Free Agents Lakers Can Sign for their 3 Million Dollar Exception

11 May

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers don’t have much to work with this coming off season in terms of flexibility to sign free agents. The new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) has made it nearly impossible for teams that have spent money frivolously to add talent via free agency.

The Lakers are one of those teams that are over the luxury tax limit and as a penalty, will be handcuffed this coming free agent season that starts on July 1st.

One of the penalties of exceeding the luxury tax limit is that you lose the 5 million dollar exception to offer to free agents which comes with a maximum term of 4 years. Instead, the Lakers will have a lower exception of 3.1 million that they can offer for a maximum of 3 years. That drop might seem to be slight, but it will reduce the pool of available free agents.

At 5 million dollars players like JJ Redick, Tony Allen and Kyle Korver could be had. At 3 million for a max 3 years, they are all out of the question.

Luckily there are still some players out there that could be had for the 3 million dollar exception that the Lakers have at their disposal. Here is a list of some of the best that are out there in my opinion.

Lakers v Spurs Game 4 Today: 3 Things to Look for from Lakers

28 Apr
Los angeles Lakers San Antonio Spurs game 4

USATSI

Many thought prior to the start of the season that by the time this part of the playoffs came around, that the Los Angeles Lakers would be one of the teams looking to close out their first round series quickly in order to take that next step in their championship run. That stark reality is that this Lakers team never came close to being one of those championship contending teams this season and will be taken out by one that is, the San Antonio Spurs, at some point in this series. The Los Angeles Lakers will play today at Staples Center in hopes of extending the series for nothing more than professional pride.

Three things to look for in tonight’s Game 3 from the Lakers:

Injuries:

The Lakers were hobbling coming in to the playoffs and tried to keep the roster together with pain blocking injections, tight wraps and heart. The patchwork effort has come completely undone for the Lakers and they will be without 5 players. Kobe Bryant (achilles), Steve Blake (hamstring), Steve Nash (hamstring and hip), Jodie Meeks (ankle) and now Metta World Peace will be all out for today’s game with injuries. Andrew Goudelock and Darius Morris will get the start again in the Lakers back court. Both Goudelock and Morris played well offensively on Friday, combining for 44 points.

Guess Andrew Goudelock’s Points Tonight and Win a Free Gift Card

26 Apr

andrew goudelock

Its getting closer to game time and its starting to look more and more like the Lakers are going to start a back court of Darius Morris and Andrew Goudelock.

The “Mini-Mamba”, as named by the Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant, is going to get a chance to play his normal aggressive self on offense without the fear of being pulled because, well, there isn’t anybody else to pull him for on the Lakers bench. If in fact Steve Nash and Jodie Meeks join Steve Blake and Kobe Bryant in a suit on the sidelines the Lakers remaining pool of guards will be Devin Ebanks, Chris Duhan, Darius Morris and of course, Andrew Goudelock.

One of our sponsors has donated a $25 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings and we’d like to pass that along to you, granted you can correctly guess Andrew Goudelock’s point total in tonight’s game 3. You must submit a post down below with the following information in order to qualify.

Lakers v Spurs Game 3 Tonight: 3 Things to Look for from Lakers

26 Apr

dwight howard tim duncan los angeles lakers san antonio spurs first round series

The Los Angeles Lakers first round series versus the San Antonio Spurs continues tonight in Los Angeles. The Lakers are decimated by injuries in their back  court. Steve Blake has been ruled out of tonight’s game and both Steve Nash and Jodie Meeks are doubtful. The Spurs have already made it tough for the Lakers to dominate the inside with their bigs and now with them being limited in the back court offensively, look for the Spurs to put even more pressure on both Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard.

Lakers’ Perimeter is Hobbled and Hurting

25 Apr

Steve Blake injury

The list of injuries just keeps getting longer and longer for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers already without Kobe Bryant for the season with a ruptured Achilles and Jodie Meeks missing game 2 with a sprained ankle that he suffered in game 1, now add Steve Blake to the list of injured Lakers players.

Steve Blake suffered a hamstring injury in the 4th quarter of game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs and needed to be helped off the court by teammates. Blake is scheduled to be examined today to obtain the extent of his injury and his status for Friday’s game 3 in Los Angeles.
