The Los Angeles Lakers got back their leader Kobe Bryant after missing the last 3 games with general soreness and were competitive throughout the game, but still fell to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, losing 116-107.

Bryant played 32 minutes which seems to be where both he and Coach Bryant Scott are looking to max out his playing time going forward. Bryant was very judicial with his shots on the night, taking just 10 and 1 in the critical 4th quarter. Bryant finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals.

With Bryant not being his aggressive offensive self, Nick Young and Jeremy Lin led the Lakers in scoring, finishing with 21 and 19 respectively.

The Lakers struggled to contain the Suns point guard threesome of Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isiah Thomas who each had effective games: Dragic led the Suns with 24 points on 9 for 16 from the field, Bledsoe scored 22 points on 7 for 19 from the field and Thomas added 15 points on 4 for 7 from the field.

“They’ve got one on the left, one on the right and one in the middle,” Bryant said of guarding the 3 Suns’ point guards. “You can’t cover them all.”

The Lakers had a chance to take the game and got to within 1 point with two minutes in regulation, but the Suns finished on a 10 to 2 run to take control of the game and secure the win.

The Lakers drop to 9-22 which places them 14th in the Western Conference.

The Lakers take a quick trip to Denver to face the Nuggets on Tuesday, then return home to take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
