The Los Angeles Lakers got a break Friday night with the news that Kevin Durant would be out due to a ankle sprained which he suffered in Thursday night’s game against the Warriors; however, the Lakers were unable to capitalize, dropping a well contested game to the Thunder 104-103.

The Lakers successfully secured the rebound of Russell Westbrook’s missed 19 foot jumper and called a 20 second timeout with 6 seconds to play. To no one’s surprise the final play was drawn up Bryant who received the inbound pass above the 3-point line and worked is way to a pretty good look at a 17 foot pull up jumper but the shot hits the front of the rim, the Thunder grab the rebound as time expires.

Bryant had yet another poor shooting night, finishing with just 9 points on 3 for 15 shooting. Bryant’s is now shooting 37.7 percent from the field on the year after the Thunder game which is far below his career mark of 45 percent and his current career low of 41.7 percent which he shot in his rookie year.

After the game the Lakers were asked about the last play and the decision to go to Bryant who had been ice cold in the game.

Both Ronnie Price and Ed Davis had season highs in the scoring department, finishing with 14 and 18, respectively. Price scored all 14 of his points in the first quarter where he came out hot, shooting 5 for 7 including 4 for 6 from the 3-point line.

Nick Young was ejected early in the 4th quarter after he got tangled up with the Thunder’s Steven Adams who was setting a screen and went a little too high with this shove that resulted with his elbow brushing up against Adams chin.

Russell Westbrook led the Thunder, finishing with 31 points and 10 assists, both game highs. Reggie Jackson had 25 points off the bench for the Thunder.

The loss drops the Lakers record to 8-18 which keeps them in the 13th spot in the West.

The Lakers take on the Sacramento Kings on the road on Sunday.
