It was a great day for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. Bryant finally surpasses Micheal Jordan for 3rd on the All-Time scoring list with a pair of free throws and the Lakers hold off the Timberwolves for their 3rd win a row, winning 100 to 94.

Bryant tied Jordan at 32,292 career points by hitting the first of two free throws and then surpassed him by hitting the 2nd free throw at the 5:24 mark in the 2nd quarter. The game was stopped momentarily in order for Kobe to take possession of the game ball and thank the crowed who gave him a standing ovation.

As far as the game, the Lakers and Wolves played competitively throughout, nearly mirroring each other in most statistical category. The Wolves had a big disparity in the points in the paint, scoring 54 to the Lakers 38. The Lakers answered the points in the point disparity with one of their own, winning the free throw battle by hitting 27 out of 34 compared to the Wolves 15 out of 20.

With 1:22 remaining in the game the Wolves tied the game at 94 with a pair of Andrew Wiggins free throws but Bryant answered right back with a 3 point shot followed by hitting 1 of 2 free throws to put the Lakers up by 4 with 22 seconds to play. Rookie Zach LaVine misses a 3 point shot and Nick Young gets fouled after securing the rebounding. Young knocks down both free throws to put away the game.

Bryant finished the game with 26 points on 7 for 20 shooting and 11 for 13 from the free throw line. Following the game he received congratulatory words from some notable people.

“I congratulate Kobe on reaching this milestone,” Micheal Jordan said to the Associated Press. “He’s obviously a great player, with a strong work ethic and has an equally strong passion for the game of basketball. I’ve enjoyed watching his game evolve over the years, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.”

Bryant scoring total following the game stands at 32,310. Next on the list is Karl Malone with 36,928 and the All-time leader, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 38,387.

The win is the Lakers 3rd in a row and improves their record to 8-16, ranking them 13 in the Western Conference which is 3 back on the loss side from the 8th and final playoff spot.

The Lakers take a short plane ride to Indianapolis to take on the Pacers on Monday.
