The Lakers’ offense was playing well in the 1st half, shooting 55 percent from the field and went into halftime only down by 4 points. However, the Lakers got down by as many as 17 points in the 2nd half and appeared to let the game slip away until they charged back with an 18 to 4 run in the 4th quarter, getting as close as 3 points at 105-102 following a Wesley Johnson fast break dunk off a steal with 37 seconds to play. The Lakers wouldn’t score again and the Grizzlies hold on to win 107-102.

Following the Johnson fast break dunk, the Grizzlies get called for a 5 second inbound violation, but the following possession there was a questionable play run by the Lakers. Jordan Hill ended up taking a long jumper from the top of the key with 15 seconds left on the shot clock and 38 seconds remaining in the game.. The shot bounced off the rim and Mike Conley secures the rebound.

Bryant and Scott were asked about the play following the game:

The big difference in the game was the Memphis Grizzlies subs who came in averaging 20.4 points per game on the season, scored 38 points on the night to the Lakers 14. Beno Udrih and Kosta Koufos combined to score 30 points off the bench for the Grizzlies.

Kobe Bryant went 10 for 26 from the field, finishing with a game high 28 points.

Coming into the night Bryant only needed 13 more missed field goals to surpass John Havlicek for the NBA record for the most missed field goals in a career with 13,147; with the 16 missed field goals by Bryant tonight he now holds the NBA record and was asked about it after the game.

Carlos Boozer has a 2nd straight strong showing, finishing with 20 points and 8 rebounds before fouling out in the 4th quarter. All 5 starters finished in double figures in scoring.

The Lakers were without Wayne Ellington who left on an indefinite leave to handle a family matter. The Lakers released an official release prior to the game.

With the hard fought loss the Lakers record falls to 1-6 which places them in last place in the Western Conference. The Lakers play the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday on the 2nd night of a back-to-back.
