Kobe Bryant celebrated his 36th birthday this past Saturday, August 23, 2014, and the plan was to create a video compilation of his best plays, one for each year he’s been in the league; however, once going through all of the plays it was impossible in certain years to pick just one play per year.
Case in point, in the 2002-03 season, Kobe was 24 and in that year alone he dunked on 7 foot 6 inch Yao Ming, hammered down two separate, crazy reverse dunks on Latrell Spreewell of the Knicks and Kevin Garnett of the Wolves, and had what many believe to be his best dunk, a wrap around 360 dunk on the Nuggets. You can’t pick just one as the best in that year and we ran into the same issue in other years, such as the 6 winners in the 2009-10 season. Therefore, what was meant to be a short video homage of Kobe’s career in honor of his 36th birthday, turned in a 13 minute video of over 50 of this best plays from his career.
So here it is, Kobe’s best plays of his career, sorted by age, starting at age 18.
There has been a slight hiatus in the production of these great plays due to Kobe’s ruptured Achilles, followed by the knee injury that ended his 2013-14 season after only 6 games. Kobe is set to return for the start of the 2014-15 season and is reported to be at full health. Kobe will be 36 this season and then 37 in his final year of his current 2 year contract; there is no doubt from those that have followed his entire career and witnessed all of the great plays live that he’ll return to an elite, superstar level and add to his already vast collection of greatness.
