The schedule for the 2nd stage of the Las Vegas Summer League has been released and it has the Los Angeles Lakers matching up with Nerlens Noel and the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at 7:30 PM in the Thomas and Mack center in Las Vegas.
The Lakers and 76ers will play to get in the next round and face the number 1 seeded Chicago Bulls who are part of the top 8 teams that receive 1st round byes in the Las Vegas Summer League tournament.
Noel has been one of the most impressive players in the Summer League, dazzling in both the Orlando and Las Vegas leagues with his combination of length and athleticism. Noel averaged 13.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2.3 steals and shot 52 percent in 3 games in Orlando. In Vegas, Noel has been held out of all but 1 game in which he scored 12 points, 4 blocks and a ton of more intimations at the rim.
The Lakers have been led by their pair of draft picks, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson. Clarkson is leading the Lakers in scoring with 18.7 points per game which also ranks 11th overall in the tournament. Randle missed the first game as he waited to sign his contract while the Lakers figured out their path in free agency. In 2 games Randle is averaging 12 points and 3 rebounds per game which is very low; however, he is playing a good distance from the basket.
On offense, Randle has shown his face up game and ability to put the ball on the floor which has been impressive for a guy his size; however, he has committed 7 turnovers, including 5 on Monday, so he’ll need to work on securing the ball during drives or being more selective when driving, but overall, Randle has been very impressive.
If the Lakers win their game today they’ll play the Chicago Bulls in the next round of the tournament tomorrow at 7:30pm at the Thomas and Mack Center. If the Lakers lose today they will play in the consolation round against the loser of the Denver and NBA D-League team on Friday at 3:30 PM in the Thomas and Mack Center.
