The 2014 NBA Draft is just 1 week away and the Lakers are slotted for the highest draft pick since 1982 when they took Jame Worthy with the 1st overall pick. The Lakers pick 7th in this year’s draft and Mitch Kupchak had stated in a post conference following the season that they would be open to moving the pick for an established player. It now looks like the Lakers are planning on keeping the pick. Lakers’ beat writer Dave McMenamin recently reported that sources have informed him that the Lakers are now leaning to keeping the pick. McMenamin wrote:
Whether the Lakers end up picking Smart, Randle, or somebody else, the team is leaning towards keeping their No. 7 pick rather than trading down in order to acquire multiple picks, according to a source with knowledge of their thinking.
The consensus of mock drafts have the Lakers taking either Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart or Kentucky forward Julius Randle. A few number of mocks have the Lakers taking players like Indiana’s Noah Vonleh or Australian guard, Dante Exum; however, most have these two players projected higher and would require that they drop in these next 7 days till the draft.
The NBA Draft will be televised on ESPN, June 26th at 4pm Pacific time.
