Most Interesting Comments from Kobe Bryant on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Kobe Bryant appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show last night and in between the typical Kimmel banter that goes back and forth between he and his guests, there were a few semi juicy tidbits.

When Kobe was asked to comment on the Mike D’Antoni resignation he responded with indifference but also some sympathy.

“Honestly, I didn’t care,” Bryant said. “Mike was dealt a really bad hand in dealing with all the injuries that he had here,” Bryant added.”This is a tough place, man. If you’re not winning, you’re not going to survive, man.”

Kobe was asked if he wants to be consulted by the Lakers’ brass relating to their search for a new coach.

“On the last two they didn’t,” Bryant said. “On the third one, I’m hoping they do.”

Kobe shared his thoughts on whether players should like their head coach.

“Honestly, it’s not really about whether the players like the coach or not,” Bryant said. “It’s really about getting results. Liking somebody and those results don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand.” Bryant added “Sometimes when a coach is driving you, you don’t necessarily like it, but it’s a part of the process, and then once you win, everybody is buddy-buddy after that.”

After only playing in 6 games last season due to him recovering from the Achilles injury and then suffering a knee injury during this season, Kobe’s heath is a major concern and he provided insight into his current health status.

“From a health standpoint, 100 percent,” Bryant said. “I started doing a lot of on-court training and so I’m back into my routine. Then I’ll start lifting and start doing the running, which I hate. By the time the season comes around, I’ll be ready to go.”

When asked about his absence from the team towards the end of the season and the look of frustration on his face when he did make an appearance on the sidelines.

“I’d rather stay at home and eat paint chips,” Bryant said. “It was tough, man. It was really, really tough. But you know, when you go through seasons like that, it just adds fuel to the fire to come back even stronger.”

You can watch Kobe’s interview in its entirety on ABC’s website. You’ll have to log in and provide your cable or satellite provider’s information.
