Rex Chapman Tweets: Calipari to Coach Lakers Next Season

Most basketball fans over the age of 30 remember Rex Chapman as the sharp shooting guard that played for a myriad of teams in the NBA in the 90s. What nobody associates Chapman with is someone that breaks NBA new stories, but maybe that will change after a massive rumor he dropped via Twitter this afternoon.

Chapman didn’t back away when questioned by a concerned Kentucky fan.

The Lakers reportedly denied the rumors when asked by the L.A. Times.

John Calipari surely doesn’t have anything else to prove at the college level. He coached the Kentucky Wildcats to an NCAA championship in 2012 and is on the brink of winning his 2nd championship in 3 years. He’s won over 500 games coaching at the NCAA level with 3 different programs.

Conversely, his short stint in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets was a disaster. In 3 seasons with the Nets his record was 72-112 and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Calipari was fired 20 games into the 1998-99 after starting the season 3 and 17. Calipari’s competitive nature might be what drives him to return to the NBA to redeem himself.

The legitimacy of the rumor is questionable considering the source, but it is fascinating nonetheless.
